In the last week, there have been two concerts at local theaters: first on August 18 at the Bankhead Theater (Keiko Matsui), followed by Calvin Keys at the Firehouse Theater on August 19.
The Bankhead Theater was built in Livermore during the 2000s* and hosts numerous events, including some jazz and Afro-Cuban jazz concerts. The Bankhead Theater has been visited by many famous jazz musicians and their groups, including the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dick Hyman, Allen Toussaint, and others. The Bankhead Theater includes about 500 seats**.
The Firehouse Theater was once Pleasanton's main fire station***, but it was remodeled as a theater around the same time as the Bankhead Theater. The Firehouse Theater has also hosted some well-known jazz musicians, such as Bobby Hutcherson, although most of the jazz musicians who play there are locals. It can seat about 200 people.
The addition of these theaters in recent years has certainly boosted jazz in Pleasanton, and it is always exciting when the theaters schedule jazz musicians for their performances.
