We're sorry that we missed an important music event at Bent Creek Winery for our Calendar, for the event took place yesterday afternoon and will be taking place again this afternoon.
The group is a trio, consisting of a guitarist, bassist, and saxophonist. The bassist is local musician Matt Finders, and the saxophonist is the father-in-law of the next "Jazz at Inklings" guest, Benny Torres. They played some interesting jazz standards and melodies and focused on a musical performance much like that heard on Jimmy Giuffre 3's album.
Bent Creek Winery (where these Finders performances are taking place) is one of the wineries in Livermore Valley. The winery located near Greenville Road in the far southeast of the Tri-Valley and is in one of the most beautiful parts of Livermore's wine country.
Despite some recent jazz venue closures, downtown Pleasanton seems to still be improving. A new building is being constructed near the Rose Hotel and will include a restaurant on its first floor.
It also seems that Handles Gastropub may be returning in the future - their website has gone from saying that they're going out of business to saying that they're "Coming Soon". A rebirth of Handles could see it re-emerge as a jazz venue in the long-term.
We are planning also to add a new type of jazz recommendation to our blog. It will be designed to feature individual musicians and will be almost like a biography, except that the emphasis will be on each musician's best recordings rather than the musician's personal life.
You can still use the jazz recommendations submission on our Forum, and you can now inform us not just about recordings you like, but about individual musicians also.
